Estia Health Dalmeny meanwhile held its own Biggest Morning Tea event on Thursday featuring baked goods, live music and craft stalls, raising more than $1000.
Caitlyn Zalewski at Cancer Council NSW’s Southern office says registering is easy and an event can be anything from a traditional English High Tea at home, to a baking competition at work or even a tea tasting in the local community.
“This year it’s really about gathering people together, sharing good food over a cuppa, while knowing that your morning tea is helping to give support to people affected by cancer.”
Narooma Plaza Pharmacy is heading into their 15th year of hosting an Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, having raised an amazing $8000 in total funds supporting vital cancer research and support initiatives.
The local pharmacy’s Tammy McLaren has been organising the Morning Tea since she started six years ago. “The pharmacy has always done it, it’s a good way to show support,” she says. “The customers always enjoy the event and enjoy donating.”
Tammy invites everyone in the community to join in for a cuppa and a chat on Thursday, May 26 from 10am, at Narooma Plaza Pharmacy. “The staff as well as some of our customers bring in nibbles and treats, and enjoy a coffee or tea together,” she says. “We also have ‘cake plates’ made up for people on the run who still want to support.”
Tammy encourages anyone who is able to show their support by hosting a Biggest Morning Tea. “Just get involved!” she says. “Everybody enjoys it, it’s a nice chance to get together with the community, as well as raise money for an important cause.”
Join Tammy and Narooma Plaza Pharmacy, as well as over 11,500 morning tea hosts across NSW, to help raise over $4.8 million across NSW for Cancer Council’s research, prevention, advocacy, and support programs.
This year the official date is Thursday, May 26 but residents can host anytime during May or June.
